Classifying Movie Scripts by Genre with a MEMM Using NLP-Based Features
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this project, we hope to classify movie scripts into genres based on a variety of NLP-related features extracted from the scripts. We devised two evaluation metrics to analyze the performance of two separate classifiers, a Naive Bayes Classifier and a Maximum Entropy Markov Model Classifier. Our two biggest challenges were the inconsistent format of the movie scripts and the multiway classification problem presented by the fact that each movie script is labeled with several genres. Despite these challenges, our classifier performed surprisingly well given our evaluation metrics. We have some doubts, though, about the reliability of these metrics, mainly because of the lack of a larger test corpus.

The present study investigated the effect of single and multiple genre movies on listening comprehension of upper intermediate language learners. To this end, a language proficiency test was administered to 40 male and female postgraduates of different majors attending International English Language Testing System (IELTS) classes and ultimately 25 upper intermediate language learners were selec...
متن کاملGreen-lighting Movie Scripts: Revenue Forecasting and Risk Management
Major studios and independent production firms (Indies) often have to select or “greenlight” a portfolio of scripts to turn into movies. Despite the huge financial risk at stake, there is currently no risk management tool they can use to aid their decisions, even though such a tool is sorely needed. In this paper, we developed a forecasting and risk management tool, based on movies scripts, to ...
متن کاملJudging a Movie by its Poster using Deep Learning
It is often the case that a human can determine the genre of a movie by looking at its movie poster. This task is not trivial for computers. A recent advance in machine learning called deep learning allows algorithms to learn important features from large datasets. Rather than analyzing an image pixel by pixel, for example, higher level features can be used for classification. In this project I...
متن کاملTowards Automatic Animated Storyboarding
In this paper, we propose a machine learning-based NLP system for automatically creating animated storyboards using the action descriptions of movie scripts. We focus particularly on the importance of verb semantics when generating graphics commands, and find that semantic role labelling boosts performance and is relatively robust to the effects of
متن کاملUsing Mise-En-Scène Visual Features based on MPEG-7 and Deep Learning for Movie Recommendation
Item features play an important role in movie recommender systems, where recommendations can be generated by using explicit or implicit preferences of users on traditional features (attributes) such as tag, genre, and cast. Typically, movie features are human-generated, either editorially (e.g., genre and cast) or by leveraging the wisdom of the crowd (e.g., tag), and as such, they are prone to...
